Heading up the booth for the local surf shop Girl in the Curl, Mary Hartmann, creator of the girl’s surf school and shop, shared that her team plans to “spread awareness about the environment and our fragile ocean” during the festival. Her life-long love of surfing includes a sense of duty to protect the ocean and Dana Point.
“I love changing people’s lives for the better. The salt water and the ocean are so healing, they change you and build people’s confidence. Knowing that if they can ride a wave they can do anything.
The passion Mary has for the environment is not only seen in her lifestyle, but also in the lives of every participant in this surf festival. The exhibit workers, surf contestants, food vendors, dance instructors, and everyone who is involved has the intent to bring every aspect of SoCal’s culture to Doheny Beach, making visitors fall in love with life here.
